To: Prospective Substitute Teachers
Thank you for being interested in working as a substitute teacher in the Licking County Schools. You are an important resource for us as we provide for continued student progress when teachers have to be absent from the classroom.
The following items are required to be considered for a substitute teaching position within the seven local school districts and the Educational Service Center classrooms.
- a completed in house application. Please contact our office to request one be sent to your home.
- a copy of your current Ohio State Certificate. To apply for/or renew your certificate, you will need to complete a substitute teaching license application which can be obtained from our office or you may print one directly from the Ohio Department of Education website. The completed form should be returned to our office along with a check made out to “Treasurer – State of Ohio”. If you have never held an Ohio certificate, an official transcript must accompany your completed application and check.
- a BCI/FBI Background Check. We require a current criminal background check (BCI) and a federal background check (FBI) for all employees. A records check can be no more than 365 days old from the date you are hired. Any background check not completed in our office must match the date on file at ODE or a new check will need to be completed at your expense in our office.
- a certificate of completion from a substitute training workshop is required if you have never taught or have not yet completed student teaching in a K-12 public school system. Workshops are offered throughout the year and are
sponsered by the SSCO. For dates and locations, you can visit, http://www.ssco.org/ocst/index.html or contact Angela Dicke at SSCO by calling 888-868-1415.
PLEASE NOTE: It is your responsibility to complete and return all of the items listed above before being placed on an active substitute list. New lists are given to the districts each month following our regular board meetings which are normally held on the second Tuesday of the month. Each district will contract your services and has their own policy regarding payroll and substitute calling. To inquire about such items including AESOP, you will need to contact their district office directly.
