If you do not reside in one of the districts listed above, please contact your local district of residence in regards to where to file your notification.
A new notification must be completed each year you intend to homeschool. This information should be sent by the start of your residing district’s first week of school or upon moving into the district. When submitting your notification, be sure to include for each child an outline of curriculum and also an academic assessment for any child who was homeschooled during the previous school year. For convenience you may, but are not required, to use the notification and/or curriculum forms provided on our website. If submitting a notification in another format, please be sure it includes all state required information.
Notifications will be reviewed upon submission. If items are missing or incomplete, you will be contacted and given the opportunity to submit the additional information and/or materials needed for compliancy. Once a notification is found in compliance, a written letter of excuse from compulsory school attendance is sent by the resident district's superintendent.
Please note, many parents think that online schools fall into the category of home schooling; this is not true. In Ohio, online schools are considered community/chartered public schools. If your student is enrolling in an online school, whether in state or based out of state, you will not need to file an intent to homeschool. Instead, it is your responsibility to notify your local school district that your student will be attending such a school. We politely request that you contact your area school's district office in the event your child is placed into private or public school and/or your family moves from the district.
Additional information regarding home education, including assessment requirements, can be found on the Ohio Department of Education Website at http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Ohio-Education-Options/Home-Schooling.
If after your reviewing their website, you have additional questions, please feel free to contact your local school district or reach out to our office at 740-349-6084 for assistance.
